Description
Benzethonium Chloride is a synthetic quaternary ammonium salt with antimicrobial and surfactant properties. It is commonly used as an antimicrobial agent in cosmetics and disinfectants. It also acts as a potent nAChR inhibitor with IC50 of 49 nM and 122 nM for α4β2 nAChRs and α7 nAChRs, respectively.

Used as a cationic detergent, germicide for cleansing food and dairy utensils, swimming pool algaecide, dandruff-control agent, deodorant, topical antiseptic, spermicide, and astringent; Used as a preservative in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals and as a reagent for determining protein in cerebrospinal fluid.
